Black Terry Christmas and Cerebro New Year

IWRG 2015/12/20

Cabelleras vs. Cabelleras: Black Terry & Dr. Cerebro vs. Eterno & Apolo Estrada Jr.

Good match, but man, it could’ve been so much better. Obviously the finish was not clean because lucha libre reasons, but that’s not the only negative, because Eterno and Apolo were so fucking bad here, they had to be carried by the veterans and it was a painful ride for me as a viewer. Terry was tremendous, though, but you already knew that, as he once again displayed his amazing brawling abilities, Cerebro had a big match tercera, but all of that was barely enough, because Eterno and Apolo were so sloppy, too slow, tired etc. it felt like watching backyard amateurs. Terry and Cerebro were really into it, they wanted to fight fiercely, but Eterno and Apolo couldn’t meet them half way. They almost ruined all three falls, especially the brawling portions from the first two, but fortunately the booking was strong enough to hide their weaknesses with few neat shortcuts and tricks, and the aforementioned Terry & Cerebro carryjob managed to save things. But at the end of the day, the match was good, and I don’t want to complain too much, let’s rather focus on nice things, such as Terry wrestling like a rabid fucking bulldog and Cerebro busting out his very best in tercera.

Eterno/Chicano (Hair Match)

IWRG 2015/2/1

Cabellera vs. Cabellera: Eterno vs. Chicano

Good hair match, but it doesn’t touch their slugfest from 1/11, this one just wasn’t as wild or good. It was kind of too by-the-numbers for my liking. One thing that was good here, though, was the fall finishes. Shame this wasn’t a MOTYC classic as the rivalry promised to be, but still it’s very watchable.

Two IWRG Matches

IWRG 2015/1/18

8-MAN TAG: Canis Lupus, Eterno, Hijo de Mascara Ano 2000, Universo Jr. vs. Chicano, Danny Casas, Hijo de Dos Caras, Super Nova

After losing the normal primera, Eterno and Canis Lupus decide they won’t take any of this shit anymore and proceed to pummel their bitter rivals Chicano and Casas with chairs, and that’s where the clean lucha ends, the match turns into a violent orgy of tussling and blood. Canis Lupus looked like the biggest dick in the world to Danny Casas, he did some very mean things to him, including busting him open to bleed like a slaughtered pig. Chicano/Eterno was awesome as well, but unfortunately the director of the show did a poor job in catching all the action (vintage IWRG). The other four guys also shifted into a higher gear from time to time to make the match look like a big bar fight. The tecnico comeback in the segunda was glorious and such a feelgood moment, well done.

Campeonato Intercontinental de Parejas de IWRG: Chicano & Danny Casas vs. Canis Lupus & Eterno ©

Obviously they want to fight dirty right off the bat but the referee stops them and insists on a clean title match, llaves contra llaves. They did exactly that in the primera and it was good enough, but the segunda and tercera were more… “freestyle”, somewhere between clean and dirty, and it hurt the match, it could’ve been great, this was it’s just good. It seemed they couldn’t really decide what kind of lucha they wanted to do in the last two falls, shame. At least the primera and Chicano/Eterno climax were pretty damn good.

Chicano/Eterno

IWRG 2015/1/11

I’ve seen some highlights of this one and immediately got hooked but I was still careful because I’m not really familiar with these two guys, and we all know how wrestling highlight videos can be very deceiving, think of movie trailers. Fortunately, the match rocked, it was a full throttle brawl, old school IWRG we all know and love, straight- to-hell beating full of merciless punishing, there was blood all over the ring, honestly it looked like a gore knife murder scene. Both guys played their roles well, Eterno as a surly aggressor and Chicano as a persistent tecnico. Sure, they’re still obviously rough around the edges, but they gave their best, I hope this leads to a hair match that could be stellar. IWRG needs to continue being this awesome, pls do so.
