Road
to Destruction 2014
(2014/9/15)
1. Taichi
& Desperado vs. Maximo & Yohei Komatsu
Killer
opener, Desperado has gone full lucha rudo with wearing a shirt all the time
and just doing evil things in general, Taichi is better than ever, Maximo is a
superb exotico and crazy over in Japan, and Komatsu carries a huge chip on his
shoulder, he’s inspired as fuck to prove himself against the SZKG evildoers.
Good shit.

2. KUSHIDA,
Alex Shelley, BUSHI vs. Ryusuke Taguchi, Jushin Liger, Tiger Mask
Taguchi/KUSHIDA
could rock the world based on all these prelude multi-man tag matches, they
just need to stick with the game planes they demonstrated. This was a swell
6-man tag, Shelley was a great face-in-peril, and there’s nothing better than
Liger randomly hating people.
***3/4
3. Yujiro
Takahashi & Tama Tonga vs. Tomohiro Ishii & Gedo
Oh
no, Tonga is back to his Khal Drogo gimmick, smh… Good match with Yujiro
finally not being a sack of shit. Gedo/Yujiro needs to happen, btw.

4. Suzuki-gun
(Minoru Suzuki, Takashi Iizuka, TAKA Michinoku) vs. CHAOS (Toru Yano, Rocky
Romero, Alex Koslov)
Same
old Yano/MiSu/Iizuka and Hoologans gags, but it was a fun watch because they
always find a new twist to spice things up. The Korakuen crowd certainly didn’t
hurt. I’d like to see MiSu wrestling both Romero and Koslov in singles matches.
**3/4
5. Yuji
Nagata, Manabu Nakanishi, Kota Ibushi, Cpt. New Japan vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan,
Satoshi Kojima, Tetsuya Naito, Tomoaki Honma
Borderline
great 8-man tag where everyone shined, fun, action packed and colorful match
with so much different personalities involved.
***3/4
6. CHAOS
(Kazuchika Okada, Shinsuke Nakamura, YOSHI-HASHI) vs. Bullet Club (Bad Luck
Fale, Karl Anderson, Doc Gallows)
An
awesome 6-man tag headlined by YOSHI-HASHI and his ongoing road to big leagues,
Korakuen loves underdogs, and he is definitely one great underdog. Something
else I got from this, I want to see Fale working with Y-H and Okada next year.
***3/4
7. King
Ace (Hiroshi Tanahashi & Togi Makabe) vs. Hirooki Goto & Katsuyori
Shibata
This
was not very organic, it was worked quite by-the-numbers where no one left
their comfort zone, and yet it’s a darn good match because of the sheer amount
of talent involved. Would’ve been better if Tanahashi and Shibata didn’t play
supporting roles, but on the other hand it’s good because their Destruction
match will mean even more now. The first match between these two teams was
great, and I just know they can top it eventually.
***1/2
We’re
living in the age where New Japan just can’t go wrong in Korakuen, no matter
what they present it’s bound to be a fun event. They have a strong roster, star
power, they can book pretty much anything and it’ll work.
