Dr.
Wagner Jr., Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hector Garza vs. Mistico, Mr. Niebla, Negro
Casas
Fun two-fall
mayhem, but it was rather short and they didn’t even air all of it. The Arena
Mexico crowd was REEEDDDD HOOOTTTT, watching all the grown-ups marking out and
making funny faces like they’re kids was very amusing. Niebla/Wagner was
central match-up here as they were building to a mano a mano title match, and
obviously there was also the eternal Perro/Mistico beef. Lots of surly brawling
and manly posing for the crowd. Mistico got his ass kicked pretty bad. Niebla
and Wagner were afer each other’s masks. Fun match that needed to be longer.

Cabellera vs. Cabellera: Marco
Corleone vs. Lizmark Jr.
This was such
a fun match, yet so flawed. But fun prevailed easily, I dare to say. Primera
was fantastic and right on the money, segunda and tercera had their fair share
of emptiness, but they also had some really nifty counters and callbacks to
primera, so there you go, a little bit of everything. It always amazes me just
how much Mexican girls adore Marco. They’re all like, “have my babies pls”,
true story. Obviously the old(er) fans hated his guts here, because this is
2008 after all, lol. Nowadays mostly everyone loves him. Lizmark was way more
over in this match. Marco’s left hooks looked amazing. So yeah, when I think
hard, the match is really good, with few weird moments slowing it down, also it
has two or three weird production cuts that look like they took away something,
I don’t know… I recommend this match.

Leyenda de Plata 2005 – FINALE:
Atlantis vs. Hijo del Santo
Uh, oh… It
doesn’t get bigger than this in Mexico, two legends with super valuable masks
meeting in what I believe was their first and only match ever. Atlantis is a
rudo in this era, and he’s damn good at what he does. He knows the rules of the
game, therefore you don’t see him busting out big aerial moves and combos, no
way, and all he does is chops, slaps and dirty strikes. He drew tremendous
heat. Santo, on the other hand, there’s nothing like watching Santo getting all
fired up and in kickass mode against tough and fierce aggressors such as
Atlantis here. The pacing was wonderful and catchy, especially for being a
one-fall match. The seconds were Ultimo Guerrero and Mistico, and they added
another element of big match feel and superstar presence to this thing, also
they were vital parts of the finish. Great match, full of organic heat and
layout, it’s too bad we never got to see a full-blown feud between these two
legends.

Mistico
vs. Ultimo Guerrero
Fuuuck
meeee, Mistico was truly something beyond special in this era. The way he moved
around and used his breathtaking aerial abilities for both swift comebacks and
mad bumping was nothing short of masterful. He was for lucha what Tenryu was
always for puroresu – a surgically precise executor. Every wild move Mistico
did was visually captivating and technically impeccable. Not to mention Arena
Mexico going apeshit for him. Wicked stuff! First two falls were typically
short here, but no biggie, because they were done totally right and I bought
into finishes, that’s how you do it when you pick the short route. Tercera was
like a long big match, but still on a slightly lesser scale despite being main
event clash. Power contra speed, UG kept hitting Mistico with high-impact
bombs, Mistico kept kicking out of them. They sold everything properly.
Suddenly Mistico applied La Mistica for certain submission victory, but then
Atlantis interfered and beat the shit out of him for a DQ. Ultimo and Mistico
met few times in this era, therefore this finish made sense and served as
heated piece for the puzzle. I love good post-match scuffles, and this was sure
as hell one of them.
