Arena Mexico 10/16

Cabellera vs. Cabellera: Shockercito vs. Demus 3:16

Great apuesta match, as one could expect. Primera was bombastic and made sense, which is awesome because too often short primeras don’t look very compelling. Not here, though. Segunda had Demus putting his shit together and finally molesting Shockercito properly via heavy chops and nasty mini-powerhouse moves and combos. Tercera had that one great stretch of nifty back-and-forth with Shockercito executing his glorious signature moves, but all the time he was mostly focused on Demus’ shoulder as the ultimate endgame plan. It made the finish much better and emotionally engaging. Awesome little hair match, with both guys playing their characters masterfully, every fall had great finishes, and the crowd reacted amazingly on Shockercito’s key spots. Big thumbs up for this one!

Dragon Lee, Stuka Jr., Guerrero Maya Jr. vs. Kamaitachi, Virus, Boby Z (fka Boby Zavala)

So, Boby Zavala is now called Boby Z, it seems. Alrighty then… The name might be different, but he’s still the same old douchebag. His beef with Maya was the main plot of the match, and it was fucking awesome, Boby was such an amazing prick to him, sucker-punching him repeatedly but then running away every time Maya stepped in the ring to face him. Simple chickenshit rudo tactics that always work tremendously in right hands. And to cap it off, the finish was excellent, done in a true Rush fashion. Loved it! As for Maya, obviously he did his dangerous tope into paying customers, which is idiotic and only a matter of time before a fan gets seriously injured. But, oh well…

Virus didn’t get to tie the tecnicos into knots, he was mostly a cannon fodder for them instead, but it’s still Virus, and every second he spent with Maya and Lee meant something, even with him serving as nothing but a big spot recipient  Dragon Lee and Kamaitachi got to captain their respective teams, which was amazing, and they fought hard like true captains do. That finish to primera, with Lee cutting off Kama’s humungous rampkick is one the best finishes of the year, hands fucking down. Unbelievable shit, great timing and superb execution. The fans were RABID for all things Dragon Lee, I got goosebumps! This was a fantastic match.

Volador Jr., Valiente, Maximo vs. Ingobernables (Rush, Sombra, Marco Corleone)

Typical Ingobernables brawl, which means rough and sluggish gang beatdowns, with lots of posing, hard-hitting smacks and Rush being simply the best. I know Rush and Volador are feuding right now, and they’re supposed to face off in a big hair match down the road, but fuck me, Maximo is a true perfect foil for Ingobernables. His stuff with Rush was solid gold and Arena Mexico was exploding at the possibility of Maximo kissing him. I think that’s the way to go. Also, huge props to Marco for being a massive troll here. And Valiente’s bodybuilding trunks are disturbing.
