CMLL 01/19

CMLL 2016/01/19

1.      Fantasy & Stukita vs. Mercurio & Pequeno Nitro

Just an okay opener, this match was totally uneventful and they were all in by-the-numbers mode. Primera was incredibly bland, segunda saw the rudos roughing it up, but nothing special, and tercera had its moments, but not much and just when it was about to get hot – it simply ended, sheeeeit… It says a damn lot when you have Stukita playing it super safe and not doing risky moves. As expected, Mercurio was the best man in the match, dude’s just so much fun to watch, classic shitface rudo.

2.      Soberano Jr., Star Jr., Oro Jr. vs. Raziel, Cancerbero, Nitro

Better match here, but not by too much. Nitro’s finisher in primera was one of the most embarrassing things I’ve seen in pro-graps lately. So sloppy and moronic. Tecnico team had its moments, but they didn’t impress overall. Raziel was solid, Cancerbero was great, I love the dude and he looks like a lost Villano brother. He was easily the MVP.

3.      Marcela, Silueta, Vaquerita vs. Amapola, Comandante, Reyna Isis

Solid ladies’ clash, but quite unremarkable at the same time. I mean, they did follow the script, I guess, but there was only so much depth and charm in there. Still better than previous two matches, tho. I could get behind Comandante as a badass luchadora.

4.      Copa Junior 2016 – Final: Esfinge vs. Puma

Great match! Puma is always good/great, but Esfinge is such a hit or miss (see 2015 Busca, lel), but they clicked here and delivered a somewhat memorable encounter. First two falls had excellent finishes, but the ending to tercera was kind of ugly, with both luchadors to blame: Esfinge was setting up a virusesque scientific hold that’s obviously too complicated for him, and Puma just casually waited for him to apply it, without showing any signs of struggle and trouble. It looked like a slight sabotage from Puma, tbf. But the rest of the match was very strong and didn’t leave much room for finish to crap on everything. I loved how the match kept getting more and more brutal and dangerous. Watch this match!

5.      Blue Panther, Rey Cometa, Pegasso vs. Polvora, Vangelis, Pierroth

Solid match that started off as a careful and methodic mat game, then turned into a brawl at the end of primera. Solid stuff, with Vangelis and Polvora having pretty damn good chemistry with BP and Cometa, and something like a Match Relampago for one of the combos would make me a happy camper.

**3/4

6.      Maximo, Valiente, Super Porky vs. Negro Casas, Felino, Rey Bucanero

Uh… A match? Super Porky did his thing, Valiente did his killer tope, Bucanero was good in old school dickhead mode, Maximo had the ladies screaming… But it was too short, especially for main event. Straight falls, anticlimactic finish. But at least it might lead to Maximo vs. Bucanero mano a mano, so that’s something at least.

**1/2
