Lucha Underground: S2E3

Season 2, Episode 3
aired: 2016/02/10

 Previously on Lucha Underground.

Bengala/Kobra was short and bad. Kobra's supposed to be a wrestler-snake, but it doesn't work. Nothing about her seems particularly special, she's not attractive and she's not compelling enough to defeat male wrestlers in a pro-wrestling match, which she did here. Bad match, and the only reason I didn't DUD it is because of Bengala's two beautiful running-jumping headbutts. Shitty debut for Kobra Moon and the worst match in series short history.

We get three skits/vignettes in a row, fuck yeah: Fenix wants revenge on Cuerno, Mil and CATRINA; Aerostar is a time-traveling spaceman, wtf; Catrina books Cuerno/Fenix for a non-title Last Luchador Standing and Cuerno promises he'll destroy Fenix.

Jack/Drago was sooo awesome. Vampiro calls Jack Evans a videogame human, and his observation is spot fucking on! This was a great match, they worked stiff, smashmouth style, it was a strike-heavy battle with lots of nifty little pin-attempts as well, and they did one helluva job in building towards first high-risk move. Even Matt Striker underlined it. Jack was super intense here, both on offense and bumping as well. Excellent TV match.

Post-match, Jack declares himself the Dragonslayer. I love Jack Evans.

Texano Junior returns next week! His vignette where he destroys two random lucha dudes in a bar was hilariously fantastic. I'm looking forward to his destruction of Chavo Junior.

Puma is backstage, Catrina arrives and informs him that Konnan is DEAD (!!!), also he's facing Pentagon Junior next week. Ha! I can't stress this enough - Catrina's porn-levels-of-bad acting is so goddamn attractive to me. Long may she reign!

Sheeeeit, Cuerno/Fenix II was fantastic. Probably Cuerno's best performance ever. He was tremendous on offense, he set up a catchy pace to the match and his corner version of the tope was insanely good. Cuerno was super convincing in telling the story about going after Fenix's head. The latter's comeback and the string of energetic moves were swank. The ending was kind of surprising in a sense that they didn't go too far in highspot department (Fenix didn't have to jump off for the W) and that's exactly why the whole thing worked so well, that sequence really tied the whole match together. Fenix wins, but Gift of the Gods is still in Cuerno's possession. Mil (still looming over the temple like a true alpha overlord) is furious that Fenix won.

And now our main event, a scene that tells us a whole bunch of informations: Cortez Castro is a snitch, he's actually an undercover cop working under the hot new bae Captain Vasquez, his real surname is Reyes; apparently he didn't do a good job in bringing down Dario Cueto, which is all Cpt. Vasquez really wants; Blue Demon Jr. is retired and in Miami; officer Joey Ryan is introduced as Reyes' new partner. I'm sure there's more but I forgot. Ha! What a time to be alive!

Episode rating: SMASHING.

  1. Bengala vs. Kobra Moon bad
  2. Jack Evans vs. Drago ****1/4
  3. LAST LUCHADOR STANDING: Fenix vs. King Cuerno ****1/2
