Lucha Underground: Episode 39

Back in August of 2015 when Part 2 of Ultima Lucha aired, I was so mesmerized I didn't want to review it until I rewatched it few times. And then I simply couldn't make myself do it, lel, I was waiting for Season 2 debut instead, to revisit the show again and review it excatly on a day of premiere, so here it is (yes, I know I'm one day late, heh):

Lucha Underground: Episode 28

Episode 28

aired: 2015/5/20

I really liked the episode even though the ringwork quality was not as high. Two solid matches and good main event. Marty Martinez got his match and I liked the Big Ryck involvement in Daivari/Texano, it makes so much sense. Main event was really good, even with the botched SSP and few timing issues earlier. Angelico is a total nutjob. The brawling parts were super neat. Dario was priceless once again with all the reactions.

Vampiro's sitdown interview with Mundo was spectacular, Mundo's carrer best mic work and I adored the whole thing. Fantastic.

Catrina is back with her ghost powers, and we'll get some more of Fenix/MM, fuck yes. Dario sold this perfectly.

Black Lotus thinks she's ready for Matanza and leaves the training drills. Classic rookie overconfidence. Chavo is back, I quite like it (LU has made me like Chavo Guerrero Jr., nuff said). El Dragon Azteca doesn't like the Guerrero familia. The entire story is awesome.

The Crew might consider skipping the job over the next month or so.

  1. Marty Martinez vs. Prince Puma **3/4
  2. DelAvar Daivari vs. Texano Jr. **3/4
  3. LADDER MATCH for Lucha Underground Trios Championship: The Crew (Cortez Castro, Mr. Cisco, Bael) vs. Ivelisse, Son of Havoc, Angelico ***3/4

Lucha Underground: Episode 27

Episode 27

aired: 2015/5/13

Previously on LU, with a swell video package. Dario visits his monstrous hermano again and talks about ancient medallions from seven Aztec tribes. Something's on for tonight. Whatever. Striker and Vamp welcome us and I loved they let the band play during their introduction to the show, it made for a nice background noise.

Aerostar/Evans was good enough, and as a Jack Evans match, it totally overdelivered. Jack Evans being a rudo works. That finish, man, I'm telling you, it was drop dead sick, highly dangerous and I would ban that stuff, someone will lose their head eventually.

Big Ryck's in a locker room, counting some cash. The Mack comes by and is all about shits and giggles, something Big Ryck's not very fond of. Big Ryck also hates Mack's fancy moves and unnecessary flips. I hear you, Ryck.

The 7-way for a medallion was crazy, just a total and wild spotfest. Some things worked, some didn't, but overall it was really enjoyable.

Dario's office, Ivelisse, Havoc and Angelico are there and Dario informs them they're booked in a ladder match for the straps next week, despite/inspite Ivelisse's injury. Neat segment.

Fenix is in a locker room and suddenly Catrina pays him a visit! Three things: 1) her ass is spectacular, 2) Fenix was just a pawn, 3) three mysterious figures attacked Fenix.

Hernandez/Alberto was good, I'm talking the whole angle here, not just the bell-to-bell action, which was sold itself. Mundo's turn and the window thing were amazing. Minus point for ref not DQing Shaun, I don't get the booking there. Dario's reactions were fucking priceless.

  1. Aerostar vs. Jack Evans ***1/4
  2. 7-WAY for Aztec Medallion No. 1: King Cuerno vs. Cage vs. Pentagon Jr. vs. Sexy Star vs. The Mack vs. Killshot vs. Fenix ***1/2
  3. No. 1 Contendership for LU Title: Hernandez vs. Alberto el Patron ***

Lucha Underground: Episode 26

Episode 26

aired: 2015/5/6

Previously on LU. Damn, I could watch that Angelico dive all day long. It's made for highlight reels. Dario's office, both Alberto and Mundo complain about Hernandez having the title shot and they both want a match, so Dario books them for main event, winner faces Shaun next week in a NEW No. 1 contender's match. Great, highly cinematic segment.

The opener was good, I loved Ivelisse (hot legs, fuck!) yelling ringside all the time, it was fun annoying. Also, very consistent within her character traits. Angelico uses his knees in very creative ways, like no one else in wrestling today. Cisco was awesome too. Really neat tag action that set up the Trios Title rematch.

Dario's office, there sits Daivari and he's being a total 101 douche. Probably hanging on Twitter, that douche. Dario books him against Texano tonight.

Locker room, Konnan is konnaning and trying to bury the hatchet between Puma and Shaun, it felt like separating two rabid dogs. Here comes Dario and books Puma and Shaun in a tag team match, against Cage and Cuerno. Awesome segment.

Daivari/Texano didn't even last for 10 seconds as Texano got himself DQed. Melissa dropping the SHIT bomb as Texano was storming to the ring furiously was hilarious.

CuernoCage/PumaShaun was really good, I'd like to see Cuerno and Cage teaming together more frequently, if possible of course. They look like a great duo. Puma and Shaun were on and off when it comes to be on the same page, mostly because Shaun was a total shitcunt, and it was only a matter of time before turning on Puma. Good storytelling.

BLACK LOTUS TIME! Hell yeah! She thinks she's ready but quickly changes her mind after not being able to hit El Dragon Azteca even once. His voice is mesmerizing. I love this angle, such an amazing presentation. They're hyping up MATANZA~ like a motherfucker.

Alberto/Mundo was fantastic, they really hit each other hard on multiple occasions and went balls-to-walls in telling a story about competition and bragging rights. I loved, loved, LOVED the closing stretch, it was highly dramatic and exciting, not to mention the amazing finish. Excellent finish.

We get one last segment to cap off this great episode. And holy shit, Catrina is BACK! And it seems she's bringing Mil "Pasqual Mendoza" Muertes with her. That's so groovy. Apparently she's the Melissandre of Lucha Underground, that's so awesome. Amazing ending.

  1. Cortez Castro & Mr. Cisco vs. Son of Havoc & Angelico ***1/2
  2. Delavar Daivari vs. Texano Jr. N/A
  3. King Cuerno & Cage vs. Prince Puma & Hernandez ***1/2
  4. Alberto el Patron vs. Johnny Mundo ****1/4
