Lucha Underground: S2E6

Season 2, Episode 6
aired: 2016/03/02

Previously on LU: Sexy Star and the insects; Pentagon and Puma; Fenix and Cuerno. Good package as usual.

Mil is praying or something, I have no idea, he's mad at Catrina for stalling, he wants Pentagon and Puma ASAP. Also, magical powers.

Holy shit, the opener was goddamn terrible. Awful match and angle. Kobra Moon is hot garbage and everything about her sucks: shitty ringwork, boring gimmick, ugly outfit. The match was plagued with bad wrestling and weird editing. This was easily the worst match in company history. I can live Sexy Star and her awkward storyline with The Moth, but Kobra Moon is already on STRIKE TWO, everything about her feels super contrived.

423-GET-FAAAAME, lmaooo. Famous B is such a GOAT all of sudden. And hey, Rey Mysterio is a dick to Dragon Azteca's TV habits! Rey-Rey = SeriousMania.

Cuerno's new vignette was fucking great. His English is excellent.

Puma/Pentagon was quite good for what it was, and it was just another chapter in the book. They worked a very fast pace and we got a run-in finish with Mil Muertes revealing his freshly healed arm and destroying both Puma and Pentagon. He made one helluva statement, and I totally dug that part. The actual ringwork was really good, they were rough to each other and it all worked for a TV sprint hot 'n' heavy style they picked. Vampiro's "closest thing to a gunshot" was a tremendous commentary call. Two matches between these two with two non-finishes, therefore I hope we do get a definite Pentagon vs. Puma encounter with them destroying each other for 15+ minutes. Both these "road to" matches were good enough, but we're all waiting for a real deal.

Mil informs Catrina he'll defend his Championship next week (!), against both Puma and Pentagon. Shweeet!

Hm, the Ladder Match was damn good, but it wasn't great, and it was the weakest effort in Fenix/Cuerno trilogy. Instead of doing a 12 minute sprint with frantic insanity and maniacal bumping, they worked an epic with long beatdowns and slow pace. I get it, the plan was to do a story of Cuerno stepping up in "kill Fenix already!" department, but it didn't turn out all that great. Was it good? Fuck yes! But it wasn't great, although some of the bumps were crazy and crazy terrific. But there were few things that fell kind of flat, i.e. that finish wasn't devastating enough, mos def, and there were other things as well, but let's not go there now. Like I said, good match but not great as we all expected it to be, hence this match earns the "letdown" label, waddaya gonna do... But don't get me wrong, I do appreciate all the amounts of bumping these two took.

Episode rating: good enough.

  1. Sexy Star vs. Kobra Moon DUD
  2. Prince Puma vs. Pentagon Jr. ***3/4
  3. LADDER MATCH for Gift of the Gods Championship: Fenix vs. King Cuerno (c) ***3/4
