Super
Fly, Carta Brava Jr., Machine Rocker vs. Australian Suicide, Venum, Super Nova
Fuuuuck,
this was even slightly better than the previous week’s (but same show actually)
trio match. Fantastic shit right there, from Super Fly being a surly aggressor,
Machine Rocker being the best possible Psicosis, to the tecnicos doing some
truly buggy flying things. It’s official now – Australian Suicide is awesome.
Incredibly retarded ring name, though. Venum looks like someone who could
repeat Aerostar’s success in Lucha Underground. Machine Rocker also belongs
there, great and underrated guy. This is a must-see sprint.

Lucha Libre World Cup – Grupo 1 Eliminatoria:
Fenix vs. Electroshock vs. Hijo del Fantasma
Sweet little
match, this was good, IMO, great balance between Fenix and Fantasma continuing
their rivalry and Electro interfering via powerhouse moves. Some sequences were
neat.

Super
Fly & Hijo del Pirata Morgan vs. Australian Suicide & Dinastia
Not even
close to what the match could have been. For some reason they just didn’t click
all together, despite some good individual efforts, especially by Pirata. The
crowd wasn’t into the match. Dinastia wasn’t on his smoothest level and just in
general the match felt kind of awkward on few occasions.

AAA

Texano
Jr., Pentagon Jr., Dark Cuervo vs. Parka, Psycho Clown, Angelico
I have no
words for this. Such a glorious ass-kicking brawl in front of probably the
hottest crowd of the year so far, I’m talking world wide here. Psycho Clown
entered the match with a legit angle injury and they decided to make a story
out of it in the match, and oh boy, they did a wonderfully job. Texano got the
role of a merciless piece of shit who destroyed Psycho’s leg with chairs, stomps,
etc. and he was like a relentless pit-bull in doing so, we got doctors checking
on Psycho and taking him out while the rest of the crew fought all over the
ringside, it was chaotic and awesome. Parka and Angelico took a beating, I’m
telling you. The match was a handicap match for awhile before the tecnico
comeback, Angelico was simply spectacular, dude’s growing on me tremendously.
Parka and Angelico gave the rudo team a taste of their own medicine and did to
Pentagon the same what they did to Psycho. So, we’re 2-on-2 now and it was a
perfect opportunity for Parka to do his vintage Parka things. Fabulous. The
finishing match-up was Cuervo/Angelico, and while it may sound “meh” on the
paper, it was everything but, trust me, I’ve never ever seen Cuervo being this
good, and like I mentioned earlier, Angelico’s been improving in my eyes. Their
respective partners Dark Scoria and Jack Evans got involved. Great drama, great
finish, great match.

NO
DQ: Brian Cage vs. Alberto el Patron
Shit man,
who would’ve thought a couple of years ago that Brian Cage of all people would
be this good and competing in a main event scene for a major wrestling
promotion. He had that great Steen title match and a fair share of awesome
multi-man performances, but in singles competition he was mostly hit or miss.
He also got roided way too much, but in the last half a year or so, he toned it
down and now looks totally appropriate, it also noticeably improved his stamina
and condition.
This was a
great hardcore match, it was really well done and the tables/chairs spots were
all paced in a compelling manner. Once again Cage got over, he even used some
quasi-lucha moves, so there you go… Needless to say, Alberto was stupendously
over in his hometown. Since this was a No DQ, Konnan, Fantasma and Pentagon
used it profusely in Cage’s favor, while on the other side Parka came to help
Alberto. Surprisingly great match, tbf.

Mini
Charly Manson & Mini Psycho Clown vs. Dinastia & Mascarita Sagrada
Slick,
smooth and clean as a whistle, that’s honestly all I can say about this one.
Four minis going all in and creating magic, Mascarita Sagrada was godlike here,
and the centerpiece of the match was Dinastia/Psycho building to a title match
at some point, oh god, that will rock. I wasn’t totally sold on Dinastia
before, but that quickly changed after this one. Awesome sprint, kind of
must-see.

Electroshock,
Hijo del Pirata Morgan, Carta Brava Jr. vs. Fenix, Aerostar, Argenis
I’ve always
felt Electro was getting a lot of undeserved hate. I mean, sure, he’s not very
athletic or agile, but dude can throw a punch and is willing to bleed buckets
for our own amusement. That’s a gigantic plus in my book. Therefore, I’m kind
of excited to see where his angle is heading to, especially with Pirata in his
team. Needless to say, I dig Pirata very mucho, and if you wanna know why, just
check this match. The tecnico trio was fucking out-of-this-world spectacular
here, especially Fenix who acted as if someone shoved a turbo engine in his
ass, the shit he did here was totally unreal and if he doesn’t win all the High
Flyer of the Year awards, I might murder someone. Like, seriously, what the
fuck was that?!

Daga,
Super Fly, Dark Scoria vs. Drago, Bengala, Jack Evans
Another
really good match, but slightly damaged by the ending. It wasn’t anything scary,
though, just a minor thing that bugged me. I guess something was in the air
this night, because even fucking Bengala looked pretty damn good. Super Fly’s
post- mask loss of hot wrestling goes on, and Drago is Drago. And yes, Evans is
Evans too.

Mesias
& Hijo del Fantasma vs. Myzteziz & Blue Demon Jr.
To everyone’s
surprise, they’re starting things off with a minute of clean chain wrestling, courtesy
of Demon and Fantasma. But then (to no one’s surprise) Mesias decides he’s had
enough of it and turns the match into a smacky tussle just like that. There’s
nothing in the world better than a rudo domination in lucha. Nothing.
Especially if there’s blood and mask ripping. Now, this match didn’t have those
two things, but Mesias did give Demon quite a proper beating, and Fantasma to
Myzteziz too. It was all awesome in front of the fantastic crowd. The
inevitable comeback was excellent and Demon is excellent in these violent
affairs where he gets to throw smacks and use weapons. Do I smell a potential
TripleMania main event in Demon/Mesias? Hmm, I’d fucking love that. Also, the
Myzteziz/Fantasma chemistry is beautiful, and goddamn it, AAA is just hitting
it on all cylinders right now.

Campeonato Mundial Crucero de AAA:
Fenix vs. Hijo del Fantasma ©
Good
spotfest, but kind of soulless all around, visually it was spectacular but in
the end pro-wrestling is way more than just “my turn-your turn” big move
exchanging. However, Fantasma super fast and killer tope deserves two stars
alone.

Villano
IV vs. Blue Demon Jr.
Epic throwback
smackfest, this was a three act play and they did one helluva job in recreating
the old school lucha. The opening stage was a long hold-for-hold matwork
session, it wasn’t anything particularly scientific or fancy in Virus style, it
was just two veterans struggling and fighting on the mat, using simple and
traditional moves. After a stalemate on the mat, they suddenly switched to
nasty blood brawling, both guys cut themselves and bled hard, it definitely
added to the drama. Naturally, V4 was godlike in punching, there was a moment
with him and Demon going back-and-forth Rocky Marciano on each other and the
crowd went apeshit for it. Third act saw things going back to normal, they
exchanged some big moves before the awesome finish. Match was very similar to
the last year's masterpiece, which was one of my favorites in 2014. These two
fucks are slow and not very athletic, but wrestling is the game of minds, not
the game of jumping around. After the match, Villano IV asked for one more
match down the road, Demon accepted but he wants it to be mascara contra
mascara. FUCK! YEAH!

Rey de Reyes 2014:
Aerostar vs. Mesias vs. Texano Jr. vs. Psycho Clown
Another
excellent match, probably the best 4-way in over a decade (?), this was a
helluva slugfest, Aerostar did another big ass dive from the lightning
structure and his three minutes of fame before he got eliminated were amazing.
Mesias is a freshly turned rudo so he teamed with Texano a lot here. Psycho
Clown and Texano had a relatively long mini-match as the last men standing, and
they made sure to recreate their TripleMania magic, they worked such a surly
brawl, both guys bled like pigs and fought outside the ring a lot. Epic match.
The only slight negative is ref Maya shenanigans.

Damn good

look like solid gold. Rey-Rey looked great in his AAA return.

Chessman

I
don’t care for Angelico, I don’t care for Evans, and I especially don’t care
for their shitty “urban crackas youth” tag team. I’m usually the biggest
Chessman advocate on internet, but he was truly awful here. Cibernetico entered
post-match and got CRAZY ovations, however that beatdown was horrible and very
poorly executed. Of course the table didn’t break. What a DUD!

did damage Mascarita’s back, tho), so yeah, like this a lot overall.

Mascara vs. Mascara: Super
Fly vs. Aerostar
Amazing
mask match, truly amazing, and more than satisfying conclusion to a long,
heated feud, these two high flyers worked old school style of lucha de apuesta
combined with modern, freaky athletic lucha. But the secret of the success it
they paced it so well, so when Aerostar’s OMG spot happened, it felt so right,
so… purposeful. Both guys bled a lot, they brawled, they hit each other silly
with chairs, they struggled, long story short – they did some really nasty
things to each other, it truly felt like the biggest match of their respective
careers, that one place where you drain yourself to the maximum, where you give
your very best. One of my favorite things to see is two high flying dudes being
driven to the point where they have to work a sluggish, heavyweight style due
to exhaustion and all the damage done, I just love it.
Also,
HUGE fucking props for the finish, seriously, that shit was done incredibly
well, just… amazing stuff.
