Averno/Titan x4

So… I’ve always wanted to give this feud a proper watch, but just kept forgetting, smh. They faced off five times mano a mano, IIRC, and I found four matches and checked them. Can’t find the fifth one, from January 2014. Waddaya gonna do… Now, the right thing to do would be watching two or three prelude trios before every singles match to “get” the whole picture, but as of now I don’t feel like it, mainly due to its time-consuming nature.

Daga & Steve Pain vs. Ludxor & Fireball (aka Flamita)

I’m not big on Flamita, so this was a surprisingly good debut match for him in my eyes. Probably because of Daga, though, who made sure things were kept tight and focused, which made for an easy watch where you can keep up with the flow and spots. So, yeah, I just praised Daga, something I’ve never done before. But he was awesome here, and now I don’t know whether it’s his intention or not to come across as a New Japan Junior Heavyweight to distinguish himself from the AAA bunch, but in this match it totally worked, matter face it made the match good. Ludxor was on and off, mostly off, and Pain was just kind of – there, so this was a Daga show featuring Flamita, and I would really like to see them in a mano a mano after watching this showdown.

Dark Cuervo, Dark Scoria, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. vs. Elegido, Drago, Bengala

A match. No big stakes, no big heat, no backstories, just six guys doing moves, and that’s about it. As good as it gets all things considered.

Campeonato Mundial Mini de AAA: Mini Psycho Clown vs. Dinastia ©

Great 10 minute match, as clean as title matches in AAA can get, with only two rudo interferences by the second (Super Fly) and one tecnico second (Aerostar) save. This was the tale of two halves and both were nifty, first we got a lot of nice chain and hold-for-hold llaves with beautifully executed armdrags and shit, then the other half evolved into big moves and counters. Beautiful little match with both minis looking awesome, loved it.

Joe Lider & Daga vs. Drago & Bengala

A Joe Lider match.

Hell Brothers (Cibernetico, Averno, Chessman) vs. Parka, Blue Demon Jr., Aerostar

Really fun brawl, it was short and almost everything was spot on, the Brothers seemed more energetic and aggressive than usual, I guess reducing their match time helped. Nice team moves. Aerostar almost killed himself with that INSANE bump after diving on Ciber, dude’s completely crazy.

Brian Cage, Hijo del Fantasma, Pentagon Jr. vs. Alberto el Patron, Myzteziz, Fenix

Great match and perfect introduction of Brian Cage, he was awesome here in displaying his powerhouse nature, but also the athletic lucha side, he wasn’t just another generic gym enthusiast. He has a damn fine chemistry with Alberto. The other two match-ups were Myzteziz/Pentagon and Fenix/Fantasma, which were nifty and the whole thing just blended quite well. Great 6-man tag with the captivating pace and some truly superb spots, Fantasma’s lightning dive comes to mind.

Daga & Super Fly vs. Australian Suicide & Argenis

Knew this could rock, but man, they totally caught me off guard with some high quality tag team wrestling. Things slowly escalated into a killer closing stretch and the whole thing was just really well connected and coherent. Daga was meh on the rudo side, but that’s why Super Fly was excellent and he basically carried the whole thing, he’s got some new edge to his character after the mask loss. Suicide was good at taking FIP bumps and Argenis was even better and more complete in other fields. However, the biggest virtue of the match was its great booking and organic structure that enabled the participants to display their skills in a thrilling fashion.

Joe Lider & Hijo del Pirata Morgan vs. Drago & Super Nova

The only thing that prevented this match from reaching the four star territory was Lider (kind of ) randomly introducing the weapons, particularly the thumbtacks. The stuff with the staplegun was decent with Lider and Super Nova using it back-and-forth on each other, but the thumbtacks at the end felt unnecessary and I felt bad for Drago for having to roll all over it during his pin combos. But everything else was spot on, Super Nova hit some impressive moves and Drago’s tornillo was groovy. The biggest surprise for me was Pirata looking very good, dude’s got the great look and he can throw a blast quite well.

Hell Brothers (Cibernetico, Averno, Chessman) vs. Parka, Angelico, Jack Evans

Typical Hell Brothers brawl with prolonged beatdown on tecnicos only to lose after a comeback. It was good, though, simple and effective stuff with Angelico and Evans carrying the comeback load via high flying, Parka was there for drawing big crowd reactions and to score the pin. There was a lot of chairshots, but almost all of them were indirect. There was also an obligatory post-match revenge beatdown. Good match with smart layout, but nothing special to remember in a long run.

Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Psycho Clown, Arez vs. Dinastia, Octagoncito, Draztik Boy

Damn enjoyable minis trio with a bunch of slick moves. I know it sounds shallow, but the match was really good, it’s just that I don’t really know what to write about it.

Hell Brothers (Cibernetico, Averno, Chessman) vs. Parka, Blue Demon Jr., Jack Evans

One match where they could’ve used some wild brawling, and they didn’t do it. Smh… Totally average and skippable, not bad but not even close to good either.

AAA 2015/2/8

Hijo del Perro Aguayo vs. Myzteziz

Excellent brawl with lots of blood, mask ripping, fierce brawling, chairshots, big bumps, etc. Although this was just a “road to” match, they worked an epic in front of a red hot (pro-Perro) crowd that reacted to everything they did. Perro was simply the greatest here. Their mask vs. hair (TripleMania) lucha de apuesta has to be one of the most anticipated matches of the year.

Chessman & Averno vs. Angelico & Jack Evans

I don’t care for Angelico, I don’t care for Evans, and I especially don’t care for their shitty “urban crackas youth” tag team. I’m usually the biggest Chessman advocate on internet, but he was truly awful here. Cibernetico entered post-match and got CRAZY ovations, however that beatdown was horrible and very poorly executed. Of course the table didn’t break. What a DUD!

Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Charly Manson, Mini Psycho Clown vs. Mascarita Sagrada, Octagonito, Mini Drago

Good, fun minis action, they built well to the nice finish. Few spots didn’t connect the way they needed to, but nothing too scary that would damage the match (it did damage Mascarita’s back, tho), so yeah, like this a lot overall.

Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Pentagon Jr., Hijo del Fantasma vs. Myzteziz, Psycho Clown, Fenix

Typically fun AAA main event, there was an all-out brawling, wild topes, Perro comedy, Psycho’s insane crowd love, and so on. Top notch entertainment, very enjoyable trio.
