Lucha Underground: Episode 38

Episode 38: Ultima Lucha - Part 1
aired: 2015/07/29

Previously on LU, focusing on the heavy Cage vs. Mack beef, the Trios Title feud and Drago coming back to the Temple and his bitter situation with Hernandez.

Black Lotus is rotting in the cell next to Matanza, here comes Dario and tells her that El Dragon Azteca actually killed her parents, not his monstrous hermano. Apparently it's a matter of crime clans. Black Lotus' head is messed up now, she'll believe anything.

Mack/Cage was epic. It was maybe 8 minutes long, but they used it to the very maximum, beating the shit out of each other all the time and being like two massive gorillas fighting over a horny female or something. It was a proper hardcore tussle and once again Lucha Underground stayed loyal to a match stipulation, as these two fucks didn't enter the ring even once. Everything about this match fucking ROCKED!

The Trios Title Match was good enough, which is a success once again considering Ivelisse's nasty injury. They mostly brawled around, Son of Havoc did his topes, Angelico did his crazy jump again, etc. What I liked the most was the ending with Catrina and Ivelisse, it was fabulous. Good and fitting angle overall!

Our main event was Hernandez/Drago in a "lumberjacks-with-straps" match, and needless to say, it was great. Hernandez made everything work by using his amazing facial expressions, he sold everything down to a T. The match felt good and was legitimately funny. This is how you end a feud. Fun times all around. If we never see Hernandez in Lucha Underground again, then he can be super proud of his work there, easily the best run of his career, he had two truly awesome matches and was involved in some fun angles.

El Dragon Azteca is about to enter the Temple, but a guy in a white hoodie stops him after some brief and seemingly friendly kung-fu measuring. Dragon wants to save Black Lotus but apparently there's a prophecy he will die if he goes in there. He does it anyway. Shit just got real.

So, there you go, Part One of Ultima Lucha was simply superb, and Part Two could be a strong Show of the Year contender. WHAT IS HYPE MAY NEVER DIE!

  1. FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE: The Mack vs. Cage ****1/2
  2. Lucha Underground Trios Championship: Disciples of Death (Barrio Negro, Sinestro de la Muerte, Trece) vs. Ivelisse, Son of Havoc, Angelico (c) ***1/4
  3. BELIEVER'S BACKLASH: Hernandez vs. Drago ****

  1. You gonna review O'Reilly vs. KUSHIDA any time soon? Would love to see if I am the only one who doesn't really like it.

    1. Will do! But keep in mind it's a 30 min Kyle O'Reilly match, it's not easy to prepare myself mentally, bro.
