TripleMania

AAA TripleMania XXIII

(2015/08/09)

1.       Goya Kong, Pimpinela Escarlata, Dinastia, Drago vs. Sexy Star, Mamba, Mini Psycho Clown, Daga

Decent opener, although I expected better match overall. Mini Psycho and Dinastia didn’t get to shine too much, such a shame right there. Drago did his cool thing, and Daga is completely useless.

**3/4

2.       Pepe Casas & Villano III Retirement Match: Villanos (III, IV, V) vs. Psycho Circus (Psycho Clown, Murder Clown, Monster Clown)

You know what, all things considered, this was not bad. Villano III is barely mobile and it’s sad, but at least this super broken old man who suffered a stroke recently got to retire (hopefully for real) in front of a big audience. Obviously he couldn’t do anything decent here and the Clowns had to be extra careful. At least we got V4 and V5 punching the Clowns into faces and V4 and Psycho possibly feuding some more.

3.       3-WAY CAGE MATCH para Campeonato Mundial de Tercias AAA: Texano Jr., Hijo del Fantasma, Pentagon Jr. vs. Angelico, Jack Evans, Fenix vs. Hell Brothers (Cibernetico, Chessman, Averno) ©

Clusterfuck, the cage crap was totally unnecessary. It was all over the place but luckily the talent was strong and semi-saved it.

**3/4

4.       Blue Demon Jr. 30th Anniversary: Mesias & Electroshock vs. Blue Demon Jr. & Parka

Another match that underdelivered. Funny thing is, if this was on a TV taping show, it would’ve been way better, but here they didn’t get enough time and there you go. Disappointing. At least Mesias threw some bossy Mike Tysons.

**3/4

5.       Cabellera vs. Cabellera: Brian Cage vs. Alberto el Patron

Very good match, but still not as good as I was hoping. They worked it hardcore style, Tirantes was ref, Alberto bled, Cage didn’t, etc. Satisfying enough, but I gotta admit I wanted more.

***1/2

6.       Myzteziz vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.

Highly strange match with some head-scratching booking, but I dug the most of it. In the build to the show Myzteziz was teasing he might work as a rudo here because he wants to win at any cost, and they told that story in a believable manner here, with Rey outwrestling him on three occasions early in the match which made Myzteziz infuriated and he turned the whole thing into a nasty brawl. I loved the story and character progressions throughout the match, and some moves were sick. Myzteziz bled and there was some mask-ripping on both sides. However, Myzteziz didn’t turn full rudo in the match itself, it only happened after the match where he and Rey-Rey fought Averno, Pentagon and Lider (yes, Lider). He attacked Rey and completed his turn. While it made sense due to all the happenings during the match and the fact Myzteziz lost to his own finisher (La Mistica), I’d prefer if he continued with dismantling Rey with weapons and rough strikes instead of shifting the match back to regular lucha. Weird. Things were not executed properly, but overall they told a strong story here.

****1/4
