It Was Dramatic in Korakuen

Dramatic General Election 2014

(2014/9/28)

3.      Daisuke Sasaki vs. Antonio Honda

Both these guys nurture the direct and opportunistic American style of wrestling, so this match felt like watching a random good match from Raw, SmackDown or Impact. Only this is Honda, probably the most underappreciated wrestler on the planet, and his shit automatically tastes good. One minute is missing due to technical issues, but it doesn’t affect the experience, such an enjoyable little match.

***3/4

4.      Super Sasadango Machine & DJ Nira vs. HARASHIMA & Yasu Urano

Weird match with weird ideas, some of them flopped, but the climax was funny enough to save the match… kind of.

5.      KO-D 6-Man Tag Championship: T2Hide (Sanshiro Takagi, Toru Owashi, Kazuki Hirata) vs. Team Drift (Shigehiro Irie, Keisuke Ishii, Soma Takao) ©

Hirata finally got to perform his fabulous pre-match dance properly, it made for a warm and “big feel” atmosphere. I guess it worked because it boosted his confidence and power to the maximum, as he managed to shock the promotion by pinning IRIE to win the championship! Great story told here, Korakuen loves underdogs, and Hirata is one of them boys now.

***1/2

6.      NOBODY KNOWS RULES MATCH for DDT Extreme Championship: Akito vs. Danshoku Dino ©

So, only the ref knew the (whacky) rules for the match. Sounds fun, but it was everything but. They dragged things and it ruined the flow.

bad

7.      KO-D Tag Team Championship: Konosuke Takeshita & Tetsuya Endo vs. Golden Lovers (Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega) ©

Well, this was absolutely fabulous, almost a perfect match, one of the greatest stories of the year, the masterpiece from the magical workshop of Sanshiro Takagi, who simply MUST "collect" all the Booker of the Year awards available. That's how you put over young guns, folks. I gotta rewatch Honda/Togo, but as of right now, this is the GOAT DDT match.

****3/4
