Fresh 2015 CMLL: The Usual Suspects

CMLL 2015/1/11

Maximo vs. Negro Casas

Really good match here, not your typical lucha as there was not much llaves, permanent high flying or nasty brawling, it was rather a limbwork oriented, strategic affair. However, one thing pissed me off, they just dropped the whole "injured leg" plot device in the middle of the tercera and never looked back, it totally stripped the match off the four star territory. One would expect from a grand veteran such as Casas to remind us about it in the finishing stretch, but it never happened.

Dragon Lee, Pegasso, Blue Panther Jr. vs. Arkangel de la Muerte, Cancerbero, Raziel

The rudo trio was awful here, so fucking dull ad lifeless on offense. Fortunately, the young tecnico guns had enough flash to save the match from disaster, despite not getting much showcase time.

Guerrero Maya Jr., Dragon Lee, The Panther vs. Hechicero, Hombre sin Nombre, Sagrado

Fantastic match, excellent meeting of great wrestlers… and Hombre sin Nombre. I’ve been starting to dig Sagrado lately and this match sealed it, dude’s awesome. The other four guys are a proven class of top notch talent and this trio match was no different. Hechicero and Maya are having one helluva beef with each other, Maya keeps asking for a Super Libre match but somehow I believe we’re more likely to see it in Chilanga Mask rather than CMLL. Not that I mind, though, CM is awesome. Dragon Lee and The Panther (fka Cachorro) are crazy good young wrestlers, it’s such a pleasure watching them progress.

Campeonato Mundial de Peso Welter de CMLL (vacant): Mascara Dorada vs. Negro Casas

Relatively short but spectacular nonetheless, Dorada was great in his comfort zone and Casas adjusted just like that, there was a big match feel to this. The tercera was damn strong, especially the climax.

Mascaras vs. Mascaras: Soberano Jr. & Star Jr. vs. Ramstein & Cholo

CMLL roster is so damn big you easily stumble upon situations like this one here, where you have four lowcard guys, two old(er) and two young(er), you barely ever watched, not because they’re not good but because there are bigger fishes to fry, delivering in a match with apparently a strong backstory. This was a well done mask match, you had two big bad rudos mauling two young tecnicos, you had exciting comebacks, high flying, nice little drama, etc. They told an easy and good story, it was easy to understand even without watching anything they did together that led to the mask match.

Mascara, Marco Corleone, Dragon Rojo Jr. vs. Guerreros Laguneros (Ultimo Guerrero, Euforia, Gran Guerrero)

Average stuff, mehness everywhere with a cool moment here and there.
