Newish CMLL

CMLL 2015/5/29

Ingobernables (Rush, Sombra, Tetsuya Naito) vs. Ultimo Guerrero, Euforia, Thunder

Naito el Ingobernable is fantastic, and if he carries over that attitude to New Japan, it might end up being epic. He slaps people around, steals UG’s signature hand gesture, constantly does the obnoxious eye thing, his offense is stripped down, just in general he looks and acts mean. And then when it’s time for bumping for tecnicos or doing highspots, he does it perfectly, he’s simply an outstanding rudo invader from Japon. This trio brawl was excellent, the first two falls got plenty of time for developing plots and stories, I was positively surprised to see the segunda getting WAAAY more time than your typical CMLL segunda caida. Ingobernables slapping the Guerreros and Thunder around and decimating them was wonderful, the comeback was well done, and then we got UG and Thunder developing/accelerating their own beef by stealing falls on Rush from each other. Needless to say, they were noth involved in some heavy smackfests with Toro Blanco, and it was great. You know what, I’d totally like to see them doing a 3-way apuesta clash, would be radical! And to cap off this entire thing, we got an awesome post-match tussle, pure chaos and beatdowns everywhere. Excellent match!

Valiente, Blue Panther, The Panther vs. Kraneo, Tiger, Puma

Really good, straight-forward match with a clean primera that was spent entirely on the mat before Kraneo’s entrance into the ring and then the shit was on, segunda was much quicker and tercera was dynamite, highlighted by the amazing, chest-crushing Valiente tope. Finishes to all three falls were amazing. Best Kraneo performance I’ve ever seen, also Tiger and Puma are having a sneaky good year, the rivalry with the Panthers delivers each and every time.

CMLL 2015/6/9

Mistico, Titan, Dragon Lee vs. Ripper, Polvora, Kamaitachi

The tecnico squad is basically a perfect trio of young lucha heroes you can market super well and make a lot of money with them. If this match was any indication, they’d rule lucha libre together, just put them in feuds with Ingobernables and Peste Negra, and the most important – be serious about it. Ripper is not someone I watch but he was alright here, served as another body to shoot around, he can give some effective rudo beating too. Polvora was good as always and Kamaitachi was AMAZING as always. Seriously though, the only reason why no one considers him a Wrestler of the Year Contender, unlike his arch enemy Dragon Lee, is simply because Kama is not getting any non-Lee mano a mano matches. Because in just about every trio and cibernetico I’ve seen so far, he’s been marvelous in it. What a superb wrestler! This was an awesome match with segunda being all HEAT and nothing else, I loved it.

Astral, Shockercito, Electrico vs. Demus 3:16, Pequeno Nitro, Pequeno Olimpico

Good minis match, action packed and just what you expect from the division, fun stuff. Shockercito and Demus were the standouts, particularly Demus as a massive shitcunt.

Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs. Terrible, Rey Bucanero, Vangelis

Delta was quite botchy here, there’s something off him lately, something’s happening to him as he’s rapidly losing confidence. I don’t know, just look at the Busca, it doesn’t look promising. Luckily, Maya and Atlantis did their parts well, and the rudos side had Terrible throwing some nifty punches. He even looked capable on the mat early in the match, against Atlantis. Vangelis and Bucanero were very useful sidekicks to Terrible. 2nd fall was total rudo domination, there was no a tecnico comeback, it was just gang beatings and isolations. Atlantis and Terrible seem to have some seriously promising chemistry together. Tercera was also good, but only until the ending with all the hokey ref shit.

MATCH RELAMPAGO: Misterioso Jr. vs. Fuego

Pretty sweet lightning match, maybe the best non-Virus performance from Fuego. He really had the crowd going for him, and there was a jawdropping sequence where he hit two smashing topes in a row, Arena Mexico just exploded. Misterioso was also good, he showed no interest in rolling around on the mat, no, he went for chops and smacks instead, awesome shit right there. Good match!
